Delivering Business Intelligence to the Masses
Peter Myers (Solid Quality Mentors)
Join Peter Myers as he presents the know-how required to deliver state-of-the-art integrated reporting, analytic and performance management solutions using Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI). Today most organizations have addressed the challenge of collecting and storing data. The real challenge facing organizations today is how to make sense of that data and to effectively transform that data into knowledge to support better decisions. It''s all about delivering the right information in the right format at the right time to all users in the organization and that is Microsoft''s BI strategy and vision for enterprise information management. This presentation will introduce all Microsoft BI platforms and will include numerous compelling demonstrations to emphasize how to effectively deliver BI to your organization. The demonstrations will help you to learn how to solve real-world business challenges. But be warned, it is guaranteed to thrill and excite you with potential! Topics covered will include the delivery of BI through Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and the Microsoft Office System. Attendees will learn how to use Excel 2007 as a rich BI client to support interactive analysis including data mining. They will also discover how Visio 2007 can be used to diagram and publish data discoveries. From a .NET developer perspective, attendees will learn how to embed reporting and analytics into their applications. The topic of self-service BI will then cover Reporting Services'' Report Builder, and SharePoint 2007 and PerformancePoint 2007 dashboards. Finally, the presentation will conclude with a discussion and introduction on Microsoft''s next generation offerings including Kilimanjaro and Gemini. This technical presentation is targeted at IT professionals who have been tasked with delivering state-of-the-art integrated reporting, analytic and performance management solutions using Microsoft BI. A basic knowledge of Reporting Services report design and Analysis Services OLAP and data mining will be useful but is not essential to benefit from this presentation.

Q&A with Peter
Q: What do you think of the new functionality coming in SQL Server 2008 R2?
A: Project Gemini is probably the jewel in the crown of the new functionality coming in SQL Server 2008 R2. It lets users integrate corporate data with unstructured data within Excel and then publish the data together with reports to SharePoint. SharePoint can then make the data and reports available to users within the organization and gives IT the ability to manage and support the published data and reports. I like that Gemini takes the analytical potential of Excel data analysis to the next level and beyond the limits of reporting only on data made available by IT.
